Material quality is a core factor affecting the service life of drop forged scaffolding couplers.High-quality carbon steel or alloy steel(such as Q235,Q355)is usually used for forging,which has good tensile strength,wear resistance and toughness,and can withstand long-term alternating loads without deformation or fracture.In contrast,couplers made of inferior steel with impure composition are prone to cracks and wear,greatly shortening their service life.
The forging process and surface treatment also play a key role.Precision drop forging process,with strict control of forging temperature and pressure,can avoid internal defects such as pores and inclusions,ensuring the structural integrity of the couplers.Surface treatment methods such as hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing can form a protective layer on the surface,isolating corrosive media and reducing rust and corrosion,thus extending the service life—hot-dip galvanized couplers,with a thicker zinc layer,can have a service life of 5 to 10 years in general environments,while electro-galvanized ones are usually 3 to 5 years.
The use environment and maintenance level also affect the service life significantly.Couplers used in harsh environments such as coastal areas,high-humidity regions or petrochemical projects are more likely to be corroded by salt spray and moisture,which will accelerate aging;proper maintenance,such as regular cleaning,rust removal and retightening,can effectively prolong the service life,while improper use such as overloading and irregular installation will lead to premature damage.
In addition,compliance with international standards(such as EN74,BS1139)in production also ensures the service life of drop forged scaffolding couplers.Couplers that meet the standards have undergone strict performance testing,and their service life can stably reach the industry average level,even longer under proper use and maintenance.
